Glen Haven ES in Silver Spring -- recent experience?

| We're considering a house in the Glen Haven district. I understand the Great Schools score has increased from 3 to 4 to most recently 7. I have heard some positive things about a new principal and smaller class sizes, but am interested in more feedback. Does anyone have experience? Thanks. |

| New principal is entering her 3rd year and is fabulous. Their counselor recently won MCPS counselor of the year. Teachers are enthusiastic about their work and meet the needs of the students well. PTA is active and has lots of events for the school community. The school does a musical every year, just did Madagascar Jr. Anything else you want to know? |

| Thanks! Do you happen to know how many kindergarten classes there are? I was shocked to hear that Flora Singer has 7 and the school is already overcrowded. Glad to hear about the PTA -- that's such an important piece of the school! |

| Not sure since I don't have a kid in K, but I'm sure you could call the school and ask. I don't think it's as crowded as Flora Singer. There aren't any portables. |

Judging from the faculty/staff directory, there are 4 K classes this year. I know that a friend's child has 12 students in his K class this year. We toured the school this year, and their largest class size is 25 kids in 4th grade. They also have some unused classroom space, so they are far from needing portables. I had a child in the school in a preschool program for a year and I was very impressed with my interactions with the principal during that time.

| We love in the nieghborhood and hear consistently great things. New principal is making a difference, smaller class sizes, and a beautiful updated building. |

| Impressed by Glen Haven. Invested engaged teachers. Small class sizes. Very active PTA. The building is lovely and fairly new. And the larger neighborhood is family friendly - lovenit here. |

| Just adding an update in 2019 - every one of my neighbors has good things to say about school and our kid will go there when she is old enough |
