Disney World Dining?

Dining recommendations in Disney? Where should I make reservations? I was told I have to do this if we want to eat???

YES! Call ON the 90 day mark (when you are first able to make reservations.)

How old are your kids? Boys? Girls? Which parks are you going to?

I used to live in FL and have eaten at almost every Disney restaurant.

We're going in October and had to plan out all of our dining in advance. Reservations are otherwise gone for last minute changes. Used to be only the big ones, like popular character meals, required reservations well in advance. Now you have to make every day's meal in advance - unless it's counter service, less popular restaurants or ones that don't take reservations.

What are the ages and interests of those you're traveling with? Disney has some great dining, but knowing more about what you're looking for would help us to make recommendations.

It really depends on the time of year for all the restaurants (except for character dining of course).

We went in early December last year and had no problem getting reservations at most of the restaurants. However, be aware, some of the restaurants now charge if you cancel your reservations less than 72 hours in advance.

I ate at the Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom, it was a character meal with Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, and I thought it was fun, although I would have loved to have the chance to eat at Cinderella's Royal Table.

It was a somewhat last minute trip, so I only made the reservation about 3-4 weeks in advance, and this was for the week of Easter so I was surprised that it wasn't too hard to get a time.

OP here- just 4 adults and my son who is almost 4. Not a big Mickey fan, but he loves the Little Einsteins, so am going to try to do that breakfast. We are now 45 days out, and I need to make reservations soooooon!!! Yikes. Now I think we'll have no where to eat

You can also make reservations online at www.disneyword.com/dining.

Some ideas are Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort (really fun and decent food), Cape May Cafe for breakfast, Garden Grill Cafe in Epcot for dinner or Coral Reef restaurant for lunch only, Boma at AKL.

Since you have a son, try and get reservations at T-Rex at Downtown Disney for either lunch or dinner, but you'll probably have to call directly instead of going thru Disney.

Also, check out www.disboards.com

Call now and don't wait, you can always make changes later because Disney has extended their free dining promotion so it's drawing more people to the restaurants.

If he isn't a big Mickey fan - does he like Pooh (and friends?) The Crystal Palace in MK. The food is really good and the character interaction is great.

50s Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood studios is fun and has decent food

if he can sit through a longer/nicer meal - Narcosees at the grand floridian, Yachtsman steakhouse at the yacht Club, Jiko at Animal kingdom lodge are all delicious and kids are more than welcome.

bad food = San Angel (Mexico Pavillion in Epcot), 9 Dragons (China Pavillion - average chinese food), tony's Town Square (MK), T-rex (Downtown Disney - deafening and scary for younger kids.)

Good quick service (not sit down and no reservations needed) - Cosmic Rays (MK - they have healthier options (rotisserie chicken/green beans/mashed potatoes)), flame tree BBQ (Animal Kingdom), Earl of Sandwich (Downtown Disney), Wolfgang Puck Express (Downtown Disney)

If you go to wdwinfo.com (home of disboards.com) you can also look at all of the various menus.

hope this helps!

OP here- Oh am I ever getting frustrated. I am taking a breathing break from online reservations. I really wish I had started this earlier Thank you all for your recommendations. Because we won't do this trip much (lots of $) and the dining deal, we went ahead and did the delux dining. I am thinking that we will just hit mostly quick dining options, those look just as tasty and then i don't need to be a mess

Oh and thank you for letting me know T-Rex is loud- that would definitely scare my son...

If you are thinking you are only going to do quick service restaurants then don't pay the extra for deluxe dining, it's a waste of money. I don't think T-Rex is scary unless you think Rainforest Cafe is scary.

PP - have you been to T-rex? it is much louder that Rainforest with HUGE hovering dinosaurs. My kids do fine at Rainforest - they were petrified at T-Rex.

I would ditch the deluxe. You are going to spend 50% of your time sitting for meals. That is hard for an almost 4 year old who wants to go see/do. Plus, at this point, you are just going to be settling for restaurants to get a reservation somewhere.

Bypass online reservations. Call. The online system is a mess. Also call every day. You never know what'll come up. Also don't discount doing a walk-up. With the new online people are double/triple booking multiple restaurants for the same time (what if we are in Epcot and don't want to leave???? Oh, I'll just book at MK AND Epcot for 6pm dinner! ARGH.) So, there will be a tiny bit of flexibility.

Have fun. I love Disney planning!!!

PP - what do you mean when you say the online system is a mess? I just made reservations today for a Nov. trip with no apparent problems...

We're staying offsite so I'm just making them one day at a time as I get to the 90 day mark.

Poster about online being a mess. The server is crashing left and right. Some people have no problem and others are having a hard time. Also people are getting rejected for a 6:00 ressie - but if they put in 6:05, they get one! Silly stuff.

If you got one, you are golden. No need to worry.

My 5 yo didn't find T-Rex scary and she's usually pretty sensitive to scary things. It was impressive.
