| What to do to amuse a 2 y.o. for about a 4 hr. car ride? DC can barely sit still outside of the car and so am dreading this. How have you handled this? Any advice/suggestions? |

What does he do now during regular rides?
Mine didn't really have trouble at that age. I did make stops. But we did a lot of singing. Lots of pointing at trucks and busses. And if you have two adults, one can sit in the back and play with him. |

Magna-doodle. Lots of stickers and no rules about where he can stick them. Burn some CDs of new music mixed with old favorites. Food treats he doesn't normally get, though not too much sugar. Mine likes to put clothes on stuffed animals, then take them off again.
And a valium for you, of course. |
There are some electronic "books" at Target, I'm pretty sure they are made by LeapFrog. They would keep my son occupied in the car for an hour straight sometimes. They play music and have little slide-y thingies to play with.

Does he still nap? We leave right at the start of the 2-hour naptime, so after he wakes up there's not that much time left to entertain him. Or we drive at night, but that has its pros and cons.
We did find this baby-ipod thing that has little kids singing, and he can skip/stop/play through the songs...he LOVES it. It's good for about 45 minutes. That, and books he can look through...and singing. Our last resort is to feed him goldfish...one by one... |
| stickers, books, color wonder crayons....stash a few toys ahead of time, and don't take them out until the trip. They'll be new and exciting. (and don't take them all out at once. give them one or two things at a time) |
Bring songs, toys, snacks and a good attitude! I have 3 kids and a husband who thinks 10 hr. rides can be done with 1 bathroom break. When all else fails, videos. We used to bring a portable DVD player but find downloading to IPods works well too.

| if all else fails - you can always drive at night while your toddler sleeps! We did this when DS went through a hating the car seat phase. |
| Videos! And driving during nap time. |
