stores with maternity clothes in the store?

Anonymous

It has been a few years since I was pregnant. At the time, most stores that carried maternity clothes (other than Nordstrom) had them in- store somewhere nearby (i remember there was one gap in VA that had Gap Maternity).

Most of the stores I've been to don't seem to have them in-store anymore. Macys, Sears, Gap etc. The Old Navy at Montgomery Mall, Target, and the one Maternity store at Montgomery Mall seems to be the only places I've seen them 'in the flesh,' and the selections have been pretty terrible.

I know the world has moved to online shopping, but I really need to try the clothes on and it is a pain to order hundreds of dollars of clothes at once to just have to return most of them because the don't fit or look hideous in person.

Any suggestions for where to buy good and 'reasonably priced' maternity clothes? (Don't get me started about how crazy expensive they seem to be-- I saw my old receipts of playing $40 or $50 for shirts from brands that now are selling them for $100+...and it wasn't THAT many years ago).

Target, Kohls, and some baby stores like Buy Buy Baby and BRU have a selection as well. I thought Macy's had a deal with Motherhood Maternity to carry some of their stuff in a special section but maybe not all Macys are doing this.

H&M and Old Navy along with Target

Macy's in pentagon city and Old Navy off of Route 7 near Skyline in VA have maternity clothes in stock but the selection is limited. I had the best luck at the Morgerhood store. There's one at Tyson's and Pentagon City.

I have only seen them at HandM downtown, and that was years ago.

The HMs around here don't have in store anymore. I called them in the winter. But I feel you, it's a struggle. I ended up buying a few things off HM online, a few things at target. But honestly, and I'll get some grief for this, I bought the bundle from Storq. A black dress, black skirt, black leggings and white tank. Mixed and matched with non-maternity things I had. It's all I ever wore!!! And still wearing all pieces pp. it's $$ but worth it to me. With the lack of in-store options, I ended up not buying too many things, and survived without.

Wow, that's a lot of money for some really basic pieces! I bought the equivalent of those pieces from H&M and Gap and spent approx $80. I didn't need to buy anything else and was able to work with what was already in my closet. But hey, if you like spending $$ for gimmicks, knock yourself out!

H&M silver Spring and the Wheaton mall. Wheaton Mall also has motherhood Maternity, which I felt was way overpriced except for Nursing Bras. Call around for the Gap and Old Navy too, some of my go to Maternity Clothes are from there, Absolutely Worth It!!!

I just went to Buy Buy Baby to shop for a stroller and came out with a $35 pair of maternity jeans, which I thought was pretty reasonable. They don't have a huge selection, but that was all I needed.

Clothes Mentor also sells used maternity clothes. I found a lot of decent things in there.

This was 2 years ago, but I found maternity stuff at the Macy's in Wheaton and Annapolis. Maternity at kohls in aspen hill and Waldorf (but ended up getting stuff online there). Old navy in Annapolis and Rockville. Really slim pickings!

OP, if you're due in the summer or early fall you might have luck with regular clothes that just have a little more stretch. Maxi skirts and dresses are all over the stores for summer. I had a late summer baby and wore them all 9 months. Wrap dresses are good too. Longer tops and tanks, not necessarily maternity. I only bought maternity bottoms and one dress - 1 pair each of capris, jeans, and pants for work, and a dress.
