Mineral Powder - What is it? Can I use only this for makeup?

Anonymous
I don't really wear makeup - although I'm sure I could use it. I just never had the time or inclination to bother, and DH likes the "natural" look, so I'm in luck. I have always worn just pressed powder - to take off the shine and cover some of the redness -- and lately I've been using a little cheap cover up around my nose where it can be reddish. But I've been thinking about switching to mineral powder since I've been hearing so much about it lately. But then again, I don't know anything about it. Fashonistas - please help!

Mineral powder is great. There are a number of them out there. I would go to Sephora and get a Bare Minerals/Essentials "kit" and try it out. They are about $60 for everything for the face (brushes included). Word of advice if you go with Bare: Go lighter than you think you should for skin tone. I'm blonde so I have lighter skin, but I get golden tan. I went with "Light" instead of medium and I only use the lighter shade in the light set.

I am a professional makeup artist and swear by mineral makeup. The real deal is 100% mineral and comes without chemicals or fillers. If used correctly, it enhances your skin and makes you look great. Unlike most makeup, you can play with the intensity by simply layering.

The best thing about mineral makeup is that it is one of the few products without talc. Talc is a carcinogen and also makes you look older when it is applied to your face. Talc settles into fine lines and makes them more noticeable. Mineral makeup is also great for sensitive skin and skin that has undergone lifts, peels, etc.

Lots of companies are jumping on the mineral bandwagon but you need to make sure you are not buying a product that has a smidge of mineral in it. I love Bare Escentuals.
