They lied about Iraq, so this is news? 8) |
This is crap. You are starting from the assumption that universal healthcare provided for by the government is some kind of symbol of a civil society. I reject that, as do most/all Republicans. Also, the Republicans certainly don't have the market cornered on lying. Democrats have been doing it for generations. |
You are right that there is an assumption we liberals (I'm not the pp, btw) make that it is uncivilized to abandon people in need. But instead of repeating the Republican ploy of banging away at the phony strawman of "-run health-care, how about discussing the actual details of the various health-care reform proposals? Incidentally, I agree that Democratic politicians lie also; they just don't make it party policy. |
"The recent attacks by Republican leaders and their ideological fellow-travelers on the effort to reform the health-care system have been so misleading, so disingenuous, that they could only spring from a cynical effort to gain partisan political advantage."
This surprises you?? The Republicans blew themselves up in the election with these tactics. The Republican moderates have been cast out of their party and the intellectual conservatives are at best ignored or embarassed to be on the same stage with " GOP stars". This is very much the last stand for the Limbaugh, Coultier, Hannity, Palin, Jingle, Newts, Bush pack. If they win and knock any health care reform off the platform they can survive within their own party though I doubt their part will do any better at elections. If they fail, the gig is finally up for them and the party will have to start reinventing itself to reflect the mainstream not the extremists. |
OP, unless you are the author, how can you justify cutting and pasting a Washington Post Op-Ed without attribution? Very misleading not to indicate who wrote the piece you posted. |
I've edited the post because even with attribution, posting the entire article violates copyright laws. |
