| How do I get my kid not to take P.E? I heard one student isn't doing gym because of gymnastics practices. They do international events or whatever and practices 20 hours a week. |
| Is your child an elite athlete? |
| Why don't you want him/her to take PE? |
Because he wants to practice baseball instead . |
| Why can't he do both? |
I don't understand how some people are allowed to skip P.E. during the day to practice whatever though. If thats the case he should be able to practice baseball like he wants. |
| Very, very few people are allowed to skip. I have only heard about it for dancers or gymnasts who are practicing their sport (not practicing independently, through an organization) for multiple hours a day, every day of the school year. |
| What would kids do instead, during gym time? |
What about basketball players, football players, baseball players, etc. who are very dedicated to their sport but practice individually and are good? My son has team practices after school but during the day he would like to practice instead of doing stuff in P.E. that doesn't improve what he wants to do. |
|
I'm sure if your child was an elite player he could have the same exemption the gymnasts get. Get your paperwork in order and talk to the school.
For most kids, having too much PE is not the problem; it's not having enough exercise. |
Even if my son doesn't have baseball practices during the school day but is seriously committed to getting better with personal trainers? |
Gymnasts and dancers tend to have what would be their PE time scheduled at the beginning or end of the day so they can go to the gym or studio where they are in a specialized program that is approved by the school. These are very elite athletes, with potential for high level competitions or professional employment. A girl in my neighborhood did this. She was in a pre-professional ballet program and she went on to audition for and be selected by a professional ballet company, after majoring in ballet at a prestigious college program. She's been dancing professionally for a few years now. |
Your son is not an elite athlete. I'm sure your school admin can explain the rules to you. |
| Talk to your doctor before doing that. Extreme specialization in sports at a young age can lead to life long physical injuries. He will probably end up better at his chosen sport and less likely to be injured if he does something different in pe class. |
My daughter has academic team practices after school but during the day she would like to practice instead of doing stuff in Science that doesn't improve what she wants to do. Nevertheless, she still has to go to class. |
