Ahh, you’re right. I couldn’t remember which Virgin island it was. Well given St Lucia is part of the British Commonwealth, he probably is not in a position to provide insurance for the kids. He should be paying her to carry the insurance tho.

According to her Instagram, she is in grad school at Johns Hopkins and is currently a 2nd-4th grade teacher specializing in special education.

Just a reminder a lot of people don't have insurance at all, yes even with a job.

I agree it's a lot but maybe she's just genuinely scared. I only know of her/the story from what I read here but that sounds like a lot she's been through. Add financial worries and now the economy (she's definitely not getting a job anytime soon now) and she may be plain scared of surviving.
