Why is it not the same the other way around?

Why is it when a female wears masculine clothing it's socially acceptable, but when a male wears feminine clothing it's not. I seen so many guys I know who have had to limit the feminine touch of their outfit, because of "social standards". Even the slightest femininity is bound to have people looking at you like you are a weirdo. Double Standards?

Yes, it's a double standard, and probably rooted in sexism toward women. I think this is also why boys can't/won't/aren't allowed to play with "girl" toys.

I don't think it is socially acceptable for women to wear masculine clothing unless she still looks very feminine. When I wore masculine clothing but still maintained my femininity with long, styled hair and makeup, it was okay. When I wore the same type of clothes but shaved my head and didn't wear makeup, it wasn't acceptable. I got called names, threatened, people thought I was weird, etc. Plus, acceptance of masculine clothing on women varies- baggy clothes are acceptable for women, suits are not.

I see the same in men. Pink is okay if you are still maintaining masculinity in some way- if it's part of a suit, or it's a collared shirt, or you have a manly beard. Skirts are okay if it's a kilt, which is seen as a masculine piece of clothing. I've even seen guys wear princess and fairy costumes and it was okay, because they were frat boys dressing up for a party, so still masculine.

This, really. It's ok if I wear a suit to work because it's business attire, and I have long hair, ergo still feminine. Was discussing possibly cutting my hair short with colleagues (over lunch, just chatting) and a few told me not to, as I'd "look like a dyke". o.0

It's not a question of fault-- women can be sexist (toward women) too. But we live in a misogynist society, so masculine things are considered good, even on women, and feminine things are considered bad, especially for men. There was just an article in the NYT today about how women have made strides toward opening up traditional male jobs but men would rather be unemployed than take traditionally female jobs like nursing.
