Modern quarter round alternative?

Anonymous
Count this among one of my quirks, but I personally don't love the look of quarter round/shoe molding. Function, yes. Look, no. Are there any alternatives that look a bit more modern and serve the same finishing/protecting function?

The trend now is to have the base die directly into the wood floor, with no quarter round or shoe molding. Of course this only works if the floor actually extends under the base...shoe molding is really only for when you're replacing carpet with hardwood and not redoing the molding as well.

If you absolutely need shoe molding, there are VERY thin profiles (1/4 inch deep)...I would go with the highest you can do without making your base look unbalanced. 3/4 inch high is fairly easy to find.
