School employees - how important is networking?

Anonymous
I previously worked in the corporate world and am now looking for a public school job. I just began interviewing, and I know teachers and therapists in the district. In corporate, when interviewing, I would ask colleagues to put in a good word or put me in touch with someone. Does it work that way in the school? Is it worth it to network and "name drop" in the same way?

It can help get your resume seen by a principal or get an interview, but generally will not help you get the actual job. Definitely ask colleagues to put a good word in for you!
