Current Rate for Teen Babysitter

Anonymous
What's the current hourly rate for a 17 yr old babysitter to sit for 2 late elementarty school kids? We used to always just pay our nanny extra hours, so I'm a bit out of the loop now.
Thanks.

Probably depends on where

I would say 15. I pay a middle schooler $10 for two as do my neighbors.

I pay our 16 year old $10 for two toddlers. I pay an adult $14.

I am a teacher/babysitter/parent of a toddler. I get $20/Hr.

You're not a teen.

I was paying teen babysitters $15-$17/hour over 6 years ago, so I'd definitely say it's $15.

For how long? Why can't your late elementary aged kids be alone? Is it a whole weekend?

In Rockville, I pay $10 for a teen. I pay $15 for a college student. And I pay $20 for a professional, like a day care teacher, etc.

I pay for gas and meals and round up.

Obviously. I posted to give perspective.

$10/hour is below minimum wage. That seems pretty stingy to me.

I'd pay $20/hour. If the person is competent to fully and responsibly watch your children, you should pay for that. If you don't want to pay that much, then I think you need to adjust the expectations of the task, e.g. you would be at home, or maybe across the street and reachable/able to return at a moment's notice.

I'm pretty sure most teens would be happy with $15 an hour versus her staying home and not hiring them.
