Here are the facts of the situation:

--Capital Blue has been the dominant club in the DC are for ranking, quality of play, and recruiting for years;

--The Capital Blue '25 (top ranking #1; finished at #2) and '26 teams (currently ranked #7) were very successful on the field, and in their recruiting cycles top to bottom, with placements at UNC and other top college programs;

--The '27 and '28 teams are not playing as well and are ranked in the low 20s.

--The question for the '27s is whether the recruiting will remain as, or nearly as, strong this year. We will know the answer in about 3 months.

--The questions for the '28s are whether: (1) they can gel as a team and continue to improve, and/or (2) augment the current roster through tryouts--in order to improve their ranking and positioning for recruiting.

--The question for the top DC-area '29s and their families, who won't know the answers to the questions above when they make their call, is whether to trust the Capital brand, or to look at other options--staying together at M&D DC, or, for the few who can make it, trying out for Baltimore teams like a number of top '28s did.

We are weeks away from seeing how the '29s answered the question; weeks away for the '28s' key questions; and months away for the '27s. The next phase of Capital's evolution as a club hangs in the balance, and we will get a good look at the strength of the recruiting machine, reputation, and past performance.

Get your popcorn. Interesting times. I'm sure the post mortem will be gentle in any case.

You seem like a thoughtful and well intentioned person. So I am hoping you can explain in a similarly thoughtful way how M&D DC staying together could possibly be superior to Capital for the 2029s?

OP, who you kindly deemed thoughtful, here. The prior answer was not me. Here’s my take:

While I am not facing the choice (our family had ours last year), I honestly don’t believe M&D DC staying together is a superior option to Capital for the 29s. There are two straightforward reasons for this:

(1) Game theory tells us that individual families will make decisions based on their perception of what’s best for their daughter, and as a result, unanimity—or near unanimity—is very unlikely. Several of the best players are extremely likely to try out for Capital and accept a Blue offer if received. This factor alone torpedoes the case for staying at M&D DC. Remember, families will not always share their true intentions and plans in this process; and

(2) Capital’s recruiting infrastructure and relationships will remain substantially superior to M&D DC’s through the ‘29 cycle and likely beyond. M&D cannot wave a wand and bestow a new satellite with the main club’s brand, and hasn’t achieved that with its current offshoots at Shore, West, or even Orlando. It takes time and is necessarily incremental. Unless you tell me Scott Robinson is moving to Bethesda, focusing on this club, and bringing 3-4 players from M&D Black with him, it’s just not going to happen for the ‘29s or ‘30s.

When you put those two factors together, even with the challenging trend lines Capital is battling, Capital remains a much better option.
You're likely to learn a hard lesson next year on the bill of goods re: "recruiting infrastructure and relationships" that you've been sold. And it's prisoner's dilemma if you'd like to quote that game theory in the future.

Possible for the '28s you should have broken out those game theories a year earlier as some others did, and gassed up the sport SUV to head up 95.

I check back in 14 months and let you know how my lesson went.

Oh man, Coppermine is collapsing and Crush may follow. Players are seeking to move to teams with more established recruiting for sophomore year, including M&D and Skywalkers. Hero's is loaded to the gills, otherwise the Coppermine and Crush players would seek to go there too. This naturally will create dislocation at M&D and Skywalkers, and those players will need to find new spots. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Let’s hope a lot of the Crush/Coppermine attacks and defenders will be at Capital tryouts this week. Unlikely, but one can hope.

Coppermine’s demise has been discussed for a few weeks but haven’t heard anything bad about Crush. What’s going on with them?

Capital doesn’t need Middies? And why would you hope Attack and Defenders are at the Capital tryout?

Ok, then add middies too.

Guess your daughter is a middie on Capital? They need stronger players at every position lol

Capital needs to create a Capital Black team with the Coppermine and Crush girls and get the Battlefield Magnificent 7 to join them.

Some really sensitive people out there. The reality is it is highly unlikely that quality Crush and/or Coppermine players will be commuting to DC or VA for Capital practices. I would not get your hopes up.

Stronger players at every position? Where do they come from and why would you make a comment like that? If you are a Capital Parent then you there is something seriously wrong with you and if you are not a Capital Parent then keep on trolling.

Coppermine is not collapsing because of their lack of recruiting. They're collapsing because the team has been mismanaged for years. There is no talk of Crush falling apart because they have been well-coached and players are all getting development. That said, Coppermine falling apart is enough to create dislocation and would not be shocked if some who live close to the DC/Virginia area consider Capital. Have heard talk of at least one.

Most of the coppermine defectors have already found homes. M&D and Skywalkers tryouts start tonight, and parents are actually allowed to watch so you don’t even have to hide in a tree if you want to find out who is there.

Let us know how many Capital players are at the M&D and Skywalkers tryouts. Skywalkers needs help everywhere since they lost to Capital this past weekend.
