Recommendation needed for excellent Alexandria restaurant

Anonymous
I don't know Alexandria at all, but I am planning a dinner out with some friends for a special occasion. What are some really great restaurants in that area (Old Town would be preferable)?
Thanks!

Most of the restaurants in Old Town are mediocre and overpriced. It is frustrating because it looks like the type of place where there SHOULD be great restaurants, but there just aren't any.

Brabo was my favorite of the ones that I've been to more or less recently. The octopus appetizer is fantastic.

Unfortunately, I think that Columbia Firehouse has started to go downhill a bit.

Agreed. I took DH there for a big milestone event and it was amazing. The food was awesome and the service was impeccable.

Meh. I've been a couple times and just didn't care for it. I like the food at Le Refuge and la Lucia much better.

Agree with the PP. Also, Hunting Creek and Bastille are good....

Hunting Creek, Bastille, and we like A La Lucia, too.

It really depends on your budget and what sort of restaurant you're looking for. Big difference between Restaurant Eve and A La Lucia, for example.

Restaurant Eve is great, but be advised that if you get the tasting menu, usually everyone at the table has to get it. They'll make exceptions for true allergies, but generally it's all or none. Also, depending on which one you do, the tasting menu can take a LONG time to get through. The food is excellent, but a tasting menu isn't for everyone.

You can also just book the regular restaurant at Restaurant Eve and the food and service is wonderful there as well.

Completely agree with 1409 and 1600. Le Refuge would be my first choice. It is a delightful intimate space with wonderful food and great service.

Thanks for all of the responses. I have been to Restaurant Eve quite a few years ago with my husband. Very nice, but not the kind of place I'm looking for for this. Something a little more casual and relaxed. I'll look into the other suggestions. I'm unfamiliar with those. Thanks again!

For more casual, how about Vaso's? I love that place.
