How soon after seeing a RE were you able to actually start treatment?

I'm new to this whole process. How long did diagnostic testing take and when could you begin treatment?

After bloodwork and hsg was done, I was able to start at the first day of my period.

Took a few days for blood work - I started the next week.

Depends on what you mean by treatment. It can take a while. I think it was at least a couple of months for me.

I had already done day three testing and HSG and semen analysis, so I brought that paperwork to the RE. He looked at everything and decided on a protocol. It was two weeks until my period started. In that time, I had some additional bloodwork for me and husband, but easily done. Started treatment as soon as period came.

My RE did the initial consult, asked me a few questions and determined that I had undiagnosed PCOS ( all my test results are in the normal range). He wrote me a couple prescriptions that day and I was pregnant on my next cycle, 2-3 weeks after the appointment

It will totally depend on what the issue is

OP here. Very helpful responses. Thank you!

My treatment started with surgery - which was right away, maybe 6 weeks out. Then we started monitoring natural cycles about 6 weeks after that, moved from that to Clomid, Clomid IUI, injectible IUI and eventually IVF over the course of about 18 months with a couple-three attempts at each before moving on.

It took 2.5 months to diagnose multiple issues with me, complete bloodwork, HSG, MRI (not standard), bloodwork and SA for DH. Then we moved quickly to medicated IUIs, then IVF, then FET.

I started at the beginning of my cycle with testing. HSG, bloodwork, ultrasounds, and semen analysis. Then, I was to pick up my clomid to start cd 3 of the next cycle but I got pregnant 72hrs after the HSG!

This time they didn't repeat the HSG or semen analysis since it's been less than 2 years, and we are both under 30. They knew I have PCOS. They did Day 3 bloodwork on me though, and I started clomid with my next period.

Here was my timeline. I saw Dr. Frankfurter at GW.

July 2014 - called to make appointment
September 2014 - had appointment (first opening)
HSG sonogram, blood work, IVF class
December 2014 - first retrieval and transfer - failed
March 2015 - second retrieval, freeze all
May 2015 - FET, pregnant
January 2016 - DD born

Hope this helps!!!

A lot depends on what you mean by "treatment" - does that mean an actual transfer or something else? Because an actual transfer can end up taking a lot longer if the RE finds something else that needs to be dealt with (a polyp, fibroids, something else).

I had a few weeks of testing (probably 3 all told) and then had to do a mock cycle before a real test run. So it took me probably 3-4 months before we began our first real cycle.

That cycle failed, we had to regroup, etc... and the whole process just felt like it took forever. In reality, from the day I went off birth control to the day I gave birth to twins from DE it was just under 2 1/2 years.
