Does anyone else hate group text messages?

They're useful for conveying specific information - ie "fyi the reservation is for 6:30," but otherwise I feel like it's impersonal... and groupthink-y. I tend to ignore the backlog, but do respond to direct texts.

Am I the only one who hates the increasing tendency to turn everything into a group text?

no, I don't, and I hate that you posted a message about this. seriously, get a grip.

I hate them too. Such a waste of time most of the time.

(Unlike DCUM, which is of course never a waste of time)

But really, I do dislike them.

No- LOVE them. Makes things really easy when planning something with a group, when you need to get a message out to multiple people, etc.

I hope this thread dies and dies, quickly.

A core group of gfs and I use them. No one expects a response. Sometimes you just want to share the mundane of life with a friend. Someone will respond if they're not busy.

Doesn't bother me at all. Sometimes I reply in the group and sometimes I'll just separately text the person who sent the group message. This morning one of my friends sent a group text to 47 people saying HMD. I responded directly to her instead of responding to the group text.

The thing that bothers me is when people expect a response in a group text.

If you want a personal reply, text me personally, instead of announcing it into the ether.

Texts are for time-sensitive matters that need my immediate attention. Just want to chat or make plans for next weekend? Send an email. I don't need my phone lighting up with inane group texts. Yes, I'm over 40.

Group texts are fine for the group. What I don't like is texts from one group member to another. I tend to reserve texts for matters requiring immediate attention and being effectively CCed is not worthy.

I hate them too, but they are sometimes the funniest thing. So my FIL texts group messages to everybody, and then he forgets, and he has arguments with his lady friend in a group text! And he even has it set to confirm that we read all the texts. She is more savvy doesn't reply after he goes off the deep end to everybody...

I hate when my ILs do them. They go on and on and on and on and they aren't for useful information but just random commentary that one random text illicts 43 responses and emojis. They always have additional phone numbers on there that I don't recognize as well.

I don't mind the few that I am in - my siblings, my husband and kids. Those come in handy.

What I mind are the ones my teenagers are in. Just 20 kids texting about the stupidest stuff. Huge waste of time.

A group of my close girlfriends have one and I love it. People just respond whenever they have time with random silly stuff and it's hilarious. The ones with my in-laws – not so much.
