What should I make sure to ask my doctor?

Going in for an appointment with my OB/GYN tomorrow now that I am nine months in TTC #2 (I'm 32). Have been using CBFM for 7 of those months, and usually ovulate and have a normal cycle but still, nothing. It took 7 months (4 of which using CBFM) to conceive #1 at age 29, no intervention. Anyway, I have no inkling of what could be the problem currently, and am trying to make sure I ask all the right questions. Any TTC veterans out there who can give me any suggestions? I plan to ask about a referral to RE, if my chronically low Vitamin D could be contributing...but I'm not sure what else is important.

I would ask for the referral right away. I just started the journey with an RE recently and it is night and day to my OB. My OB is great, but the RE has one job -- to get your pregnant. He came in with lots of options, some way more than I was ready for, but he laid it out there so I had all the information. I feel more empowered about the TTC journey now than I did with my OB, which was a lot of 'wait and see' type answers. Plus, this is an incredible area to live in to find REs. You'll have your pick! Good luck.

Well one thing I wish I'd considered at your (young!) age is how many children I ultimately wanted. Because it doesn't tend to get easier to get pregnant with time...So if for example you know you want two more, that might help determine what intervention is most appropriate now (i.e. Maybe IVF makes sense so you'll have younger, better quality embryos for future use). If you only want one more, then maybe less intervention for now makes more sense because you've still got some time to see what happens...after ruling out other problems, you could try a Clomid or even injectables (though with those drugs multiples are always a risk).

NP here. I'm 32 as well going for number two as well, and eight months in this is getting frustrating. Also feeling sooooo olllldddd at 32 as well (I know, I know! I'm sure when I'm 40 I'll feel differently) and I'm getting more and more stressed about how we can ever have two more children before I'm geriatric.

Had my first at 32 and yeah, the years can just run out if you're trying for multiple kids before late 30s. If you have a c-section, that's a year's wait right there. Then if it takes 8 months again to conceive (and it usually takes longer as you get older)...then if you have a miscarriage and have to heal and wait again to try...etc. Not that it never works out, just that there's more risk and the stakes feel higher with time running out... downside of not getting started in my 20s knowing that I wanted at least 3. Good luck!

Ugh, yes, I hear all of this. I actually got pregnant on the third month trying, but it ended in an early miscarriage, so not only is that really shitty emotionally it also too a while for my period to come back and several cycles later still no dice and I just like I won't ever get pregnant again. At least now without investing thousands and thousands of dollars.
