Acura MDX vs Lexus GX

It's time for me to get a new car. I currently drive a 2009 MDX and have been very happy with my car. My neighborhood is full of MDXs and GXs. Everyone I've asked is happy with their cars. I know they are both reliable, good cars. The one plus I see for the MDX is that I can get a hybrid. I also love it inside. It looks so modern. But I like the outside of the GX, and so does my husband. Looks larger and more like an SUV, while the MDX is more streamlined. Price is about the same. If you chose between these two at one point, why did you go for one and not the other? If you drive one of these cars, why do you love it?

I'd recommend looking at Infiniti, their technology is far superior and quality is comparable. (Coming from the wife of an owner of an Acura and Lexus... I think Infiniti is often overlooked but so much better!)

We did look at the QX60. It was ok. I didn't like the inside as much, and the outside looks minivanish. Now, I LOVE the QX80 and the Lexus LX but, unfortunately, we are not going to spend that much on a car

We just purchased a Honda Pilot. The elite model is cheaper than the MDX but has many of the same features.

We also looked at the Volvo cx90 which is also a hybrid.

Besides the exterior, the QX60 interior and tech is identical to the Nissan Pathfinder, which is heavily discounted compared to the QX60 even when fully equipped.

Did you drive the GX? Its more of a truck based vehicle. If you don't mind the drive, then I would get that.

Have you looked at the new Volvo XC90 or Audi Q7? If you only need the 3rd row occasionally you could look at a gently used BMW X5 too.

Ive had both. Love the GX a million times more. Is a true luxury SUV. The Acura feels like a mediocre minivan upgrade.

I have a 2003 LX470 that just hit 200k miles. We had a $5000 steering repair (common) 2years ago but no other issues or big ticket fixes.

If they make the Gx anything like the LX then go for the Lexus

DH used to have an Acura TL, and maybe not a good comparison but my Lexus was far more luxurious drive and ride than his car.

We have a 2008 MDX and are also looking at replacing it with another MDX or a Lexus GX. Still in the really stages of looking so haven't had a chance to test drive a GX yet but the one thing that the MDX has over the GX is fuel economy.

We have an old MDX and are replacing it. We weren't sold on the regular MDX because we don't like the transmission, but we drove the new Sport Hybrid and love it! I put a deposit on one on the spot. OP, you should test drive one.

I have a QX60 and hate it. Everything about it feels cheap to me. I usually drive my cars 8-10 years but am itching to trade this one in after only 3.

Could you elaborate with some details? I haven't test driven either, but I have sat on both and they both look very nice inside. I like the outside design of the LX but I though the MDX looked a bit nicer inside. The LX is definitely taller and you feel it inside, but the MDX felt roomier. I'm not sure which one is longer/wider. What makes the GX feel more luxurious for you? Thanks!

Thank you, I haven't test driven either, but if I get the MDX it will definitely be the hybrid.

We have a 2017 MDX, we love it! But, we compared it to Mazda CX9 and the pilot. Didn't consider the Lexus
