OMG, just realized I forgot to claim our FSA dependent care funds for 2016

There was $5,000 in that account. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Do we have any recourse at all? I can't believe I forgot the money was there. We claimed all our healthcare money and forgot about the child care.

There was just another thread about this. The upshot is nothing.

You're out the money.

I always need that money much earlier in the year. Would never forget about it because I'm counting the days until I can get it back. Sorry OP, that stinks.

Yes. I wanted to bang my head on the desk when I realized it. I really wish you the best of luck, as we determined that there was nothing that could be done (I have no idea if that's a plan-specific thing or if you work for nicer people than I do, etc)

OMG, I feel physically ill. My husband is going to have a coronary...

No one reminded you? Not even about the grace period? Sucky HR department.

I'm jealous you can forget about yours. I'm another one who counts down the days in the beginning of the year to submit receipts. I'd used up my $5,000 by the end of February.

We got the automatic reminder emails from FSAFeds, but I kept deleting them thinking we claimed all our money already (the healthcare funds). For some reason I was blanking on the childcare...

I'm sorry you are losing this money. Looking ahead..

1. For 2016, you can't do anything - Just don't tell your husband...If he typically does not pay attention to this, why bother. Compensate by spending less on your personal stuff (if you DO spend a lot on your own stuff).
2. For 2017, if you did contribute to FSA, add a monthly reminder on your calendar - pick a Friday, and have it set to repeat each month - so you claim the money each month.

Well he forgot about it too, right?

Sorry OP, this sucks.

We are another family who has tapped it all about by February. So no way we forget about it.

Chances are, if he hasn't said anything yet, he has also forgotten.

Trust me, it's not like we didn't need the money--we just can't claim it till the end of the year. Our daycare doesn't provide receipts until mid-January, so we always get it in one lump sum.
