Best time of day to take PNVs?

Anonymous
Is there a "best time of day" to take PNVs? I am not pregnant but am trying for #2 and they can make me nauseous even though I'm NOT pregnant. I wondered if you metabolize them better at certain times of day? I don't remember what I did for #1. Do folks take them at night or at lunch? What works? I'm hoping to get into a routine that would work through pregnancy (i.e., not taking them in the morning) but have no idea if your body will adequately metabolize a PNV at night?

First, I would take one that is easy on the stomach. Some are food-based or will say "vegetarian" on the bottle somewhere.

I've tried several and these seem to be the best and easiest to digest. I take the "Simply One" Prenatal with breakfast (a bowl of granola and yogurt) in addition to a b-complex and three fish oil capsules. Since November (when I began taking these) I have not ONCE gotten nauseous from them. Never. I think the key is to take them with a good-sized meal and drink lots of water. I layer my pills as I eat, which helps a lot too.

You can get them at Whole Foods and they're 1/day, which is great. I believe they also have 1000mcg of folic acid too.

I take mine at night right before bed on an empty stomach. I have them on my nighttstand. Mine make me a little sick as well and this seems to be the only time I can take them since the instructions specifically tell me to take them on an empty stomach at least two hours before I eat. I take Duet DHA.

I took mine right after dinner. Many vitamins need protein to be digested so after mealtime is best.

I take them before bed. Usually eat dinner around 7:30 or 8. So when I head to bed around 10 or so there is still some food in my stomach such that I don't get sick from the vitamins.

When I first got pregnant last summer (ended up m/c), I was taking them in the morning and they made me retch on an empty stomach. I've had no problems since switching to bedtime and I've been taking them now for almost a year.

OP here. Thanks for the responses. Coincidentally, I am taking PruEt DHA as well. I may switch to the Whole Foods prenatal vitamin suggestion or take the vitamin at night right before I hit the sack. This is such a great resource!

I took mine with breakfast, but same concept as this poster. Just don't make milk the protein that you take it with, as calcium can block the absorption of iron.
