Specifically, 40 cubic feet of gardening dirt for a raised vegetable garden?
I've seen the bags at Home Depot but I think it'll be close to $140 dollars. Any other places for bulk dirt? Maybe delivered? |
| Look on craigslist -- lots of ads for free fill dirt. |
| If you can borrow a pickup truck it will be pretty cheap to get a couple of cubic yards from a nursery or a landscaping place like RELS (they used to charge $32/cu. yd of topsoil). Delivery charges are expensive (RELS charged $35 several years ago) and are best for a full load of 8 cubic yards. |
Are you serious? OP is looking for soil for a vegetable garden. Who would use free fill dirt for that? |
| You don't want random dirt, OP, for a soil that will grow edibles. Our front yard is filled with construction debris (stones, nails, pieces of glass, bricks) under the lawn. That's what fill dirt is. |
| Alas, RELS now charges around $100 for delivery, but otherwise they are a quality place to buy bulk soil. I also recommend Grey Goose Farm (same delivery charges), which sells a special soil mix they call "Veggie Magic". It's kind of expensive (around $80/yard if I remember right), but it's been awesome in my raised beds. |
| Just did this, OP, had a great experience with Meadows Farms. |
| Wow? $100 for delivery now? It might be cheaper to rent a pickup and haul it home yourself. |
| Do you want compost? |
Places like RELS or Grey Goose Farm sell top soil/compost mixes. |
| I do need some compost, do recommend me some. |
