Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
He is hating the stroller lately. He just wants to get down and MOVE or be held. We go on outings at least once a day and its getting painful. Half the time I end up carrying him and pushing the stroller. I might sell the bjorn and buy an Ergo. Is it too late to get much use? I do plan on having another baby...
My kids are 13 month old, twins, and we have 2 ergos and love them. My son is more active so when we put him in at first he doesn't love it but once we get going, all is fine. I love that I can carry them on my back on my front! I say go for it! Good luck.
Yup, buy one. They have a pretty good resale value.
go for it. that's the age my son STOPPED using the ergo, but i have high hopes that he will get into it again very soon. he just wants to walk everywhere now! but the ergo supposedly carries kids for many years so i'm hanging on to mine. as a PP said, you can always sell it and get most of your $ back if he doesn't like it.
i used my mine from birth through 3 1/2 and it is definitely one of my top five best purchases!
My DD is a year old, and not exactly petite (25lbs) and I just got the Beco carrier, which is similar to the Ergo (though possibly slightly easier to use as a back carrier), and love it! We hadn't really been doing the baby carrier thing for a few months since the Bjorn got uncomfortable for me, but I find both the front and back carry with the Beco to be comfortable, and DD loves it.
Question: my 13 month old DD loves the bjorn, but it is getting uncomfortable. One thing she likes about the bjorn, is that she faces out. Are there any other carriers like that for older babies? Hip carriers, maybe? I don't think she'd like the ergo, b/c she would be facing in.
09:00 You can do a hip carry with the Ergo
Or a back carry, although I'm not that fond of it because I feel like he's too far down my back.
You can only do a hip carry for a short time with Ergo, according to the instructions...

If you're planning on having another child, I would definitely say get one. And get comfortable swinging him up onto your back to do the back carry. we used our Ergo *ALL* the time when our 20 month old was younger - now when we're out and about I often just let her walk, or she winds up pushing the stroller, but we will still bring the Ergo for things like longer hikes, airplane trips, etc., and for those times it is invaluable. And generally I always wear her on the back because it's more comfortable for both of us, and she loves riding piggy back (at least as long as I'm moving...) The exception is when we're airplane traveling, then I often wear her on the front so that if she falls asleep I can still sit down.
$ for $ the Ergo is hands down the best piece of baby equipment I got. |
my DD is 2yo and we still love our ergo. especially good for walking around town, and busy places like NYC.
DD is 21 months and we still use the ergo--it's great! You wont' regret it.
I have a barely-used Ergo that I'd like to sell (both DH and I were too short for it to be comfortable for us). Any interest? I'd be willing to part with it for $45...E-mail me at silbert7@gmail.com.
I got the Ergo at 13 months and am still using it with my 3 year old. He wants to be carried all the time. I use the back front and hip carry.
