Expectant and Postpartum Moms

As of today, i have not gained any weight. I was sick my first trimester no barfing, but had little appetite, so it is understandable that I did not gain then. Now, my stomach just feels really small. I get terribly hungry, but fill very quickly. I think I am just consuming less calories than I normally would.
I'm about 10-12 lbs overweight to begin with (5'9" and 160) so possibly my body just is not gaining because of the already excess weight. I have an OB appt next Monday and I'm afraid I'm going to get scolded and threatened with hospitalization. This happend to my friend who was not gaining. Anyone else not gain weight by this time and what did the doc say? I feel like I'm eating well rounded meals, but just smaller quantities. Basically if we go out to a restaurant, i don't eat the bread or else I will be stuffed (literally feeling like I just had Thanksgiving supper) before the meal even arrives. I could easily order off the kids menu and that would be pleanty for each meal. |
| 5'9 and 160 is not overweight. You should be gaining. |
Depends on the body. I agree she should be gaining but I am 5'8 and if I were 5'9 and 160, I'd be at least 15 pounds overweight. OP, does it seem like your weight has shifted at all, gone from fat reserves, which most of us have, to belly or somewhere else? |

Lots of times, I wouldn't really want much for dinner if I'd had a decent lunch. I started getting hungrier when baby was going through growth spurts, and ate more then, often in the middle of the night. Maybe this will be the case with you?
Are you tracking your diet? http://babyfit.sparkpeople.com/ has a nice diet tracker that you can also personalize some to make sure you're getting enough calories, protein, etc. |

OP, I didn't gain any weight either until 24 weeks (this is my 2nd pregnancy, btw). I was VERY sick the first trimester and I think chasing after DS I just wasn't able to keep the weight on. My OB says I'm doing fine now and the baby is growing great. Check with your doctor at your next appt. They may have you do a few more sonos (which my doctor has done) just in case!
Good luck! |
| Try not to worry until you see the doctor. Most likely it is fine, but your doctor will measure to check the baby's growth. FWIW, I am 5'9 and was 165lb at the time I gave birth to a very healthy 6lb 12oz baby, although I was 130lb to start. |
Yes, this is overweight, especially if you have a smaller frame and little muscle mass. |

determining whether someone is overweight is dependent on many factors. On paper, I am overweight but I wear a size 4 in Ann Taylor pants and a size 10 blouse (34dd boobs).
to the OP, as long as you are healthy, the baby is gaining weight, you are getting physical activity, and eating healthy meals, your weight doesn't matter. If the baby is small, then you have cause for concern. |
| 15:31 post: how much weight have you gained and just curious, did you go up in your pants size during your pregnancy? |
| 5'9 and 160 gives you a BMI of 23.6. that is NOT overweight...maybe you don't feel like it fits the bill of looking great in skinny jeans, but its not going to make you unhealthy. |
| I didn't start gaining until 26 weeks, after which I started to gain about a pound a week. FWIW, I'm 5'3" and weighed 173 lbs when I started to gain. I figured since I was considered "obese" by most standards, then my body was somewhat self-regulating my appetite (my doctor, by the way) said at my 26 week appt. that I should start gaining about 1 lb/week from 26 weeks on. As long as you eat healthfully, you should be okay. Try smaller, but more frequent meals. |
