What types of students do well at tc Williams? do maj high hhi in alexandria do private school?

I am hoping my kids do well enough to gain acceptance into a decent state school. Would like to live in old town. Read a lot of posts regarding the lower ranked schools having plenty of resources for motivated kids. What types of kids do well at tc Williams for entrance into uva?

Our kids gained entry to UVA. We are degreed parents, work in D.C. and locally, kids went to ACPS K-12.

As their mother, I sat early with them figuring out how they learned, then focusing on that to hone their reading and writing skills, expanding to other subjects as they grew. In advanced math I drove one to tutors. I enrolled them in private SAT prep courses. You know the drill. They came out of TC Williams with near 5.0 GPA, very high SAT. They were active in sports. Both were motivated. GL.

TC parent now. Uneven instructional quality, but basically good overall. We are both high-ed, both work FT, one DC (originally private and moved to ACPS during elementary). ACPS does not always get a fair airing on this and other boards. Our experiences have largely been good, and there have been moments of real excellence. In approaching 10 years, only two real teacher catastrophes. While we have not observed the alleged "Yale or jail" phenomenon, it's certainly true in Alexandria and elsewhere that high-SES kids who do well in school (or reasonably well but with strong extras) get into better colleges than the average kids. Generally glad we moved to ACPS and stayed.

After reading the reports of offenses, curious to know how the environment affected your children. If your child is high performing and taking advanced course load, does what occur outside in the hallway make your kids feel a type of way?

The school is really large - about 3,500 students -so you might want to keep that in mind depending on your child.

It seems the UMI children who go and do well are those who are capable of doing a full course load of APs from the get go. Would your child be capable of that?
