My four year keeps telling me he wants to learn to speak Spanish. Anywhere for him to actually take lessons besides Communikids and Jabberu. Both seem pretty expensive as a way to just try it? I'm in NW DC. |
There is a place called Spanish Now that teaches adults and kids. I took their adult class, but don't know anyone who has taken their kids class. They offer private lessons or group lessons. For kids that age, they will only speak to them in spanish. They also have a class for kids at the same time as a class for adults. I think you can find them if you google spanishnow and washington dc. Hope this helps. If you are not too serious about his learning spanish or if you think it is just a phase, you could just teach him a few words yourself. For example, hello (hola), goodbye (adios), milk (leche), bathroom (el bano), book (el libro), car (coche). Also, you can buy some of his favorite books in spanish. |
When I was an aupair I made a point to not speak my native language and actually avoid contact with people from my country while I learned English.... Not sure an au pair would speak in her native language with your child. |
Hola - Jabberu posting. Keep in mind that you can schedule a free trial class for your son to see how he enjoys our Spanish class, meet the teacher, see the center, check out our parent resource guide, etc. Whether it's at Jabberu or not, incouraging your son's interest in learning another language and thereby learning about another culture, is valuable to him now and in the future. Best of luck!
