Help me; I'm dumb. EZPass website isn't helping. I can use the toll lanes on I95 south (toward Richmond) and pay using the regular EZ Pass? Only need the souped up EZ Pass for toll free with carpools?
I plan to be traveling occasionally between DC and Richmond, but not regularly and not carpooling. I'd pay the toll to use the extra lanes but in the past I have felt I wasn't permitted to do so with the regular EZ Pass transponder (without the switch). I'd get the souped up one but apparently it's rescinded if you don't carpool after a certain number of months. Any regular commuters along there able to sound in and help a dumb person out? I want to throw money at my traffic problem and need to know how to do that. |
| This might be a good time to sit down and discuss your situation with your landlord. Trust me on this one! |
Using the regular EZ Pass on the HOT lanes south of Edsall Road is fine. You'll pay the posted toll and roll on. The "souped up" one gives you the option to flip to HOV-mode if you have 3+ people in the car to ride toll-free. If you don't have 3+ people in the car, you pay the tolls as normal. Your line about it being rescinded for inactivity isn't true. Lastly, move inside the Beltway...commuting like that is not worth it. |

I'm fairly sure you only need the EZpass flex if you want to use the HOT lanes for carpooling without paying. Otherwise plain EZpass works.
We have the Flex. They don't take it away if you don't use it, they just charge you a fee. I think its $10? Not sure because we drive to Richmond to see family at least quarterly. |
douche. the OP said occasionally between Dc and richmond... but not regular and not carpooling. why would they move inside the beltway? I go to Richmond about once a month from Vienna. all depends on traffic whether I take the express lanes or not. and even then sometime sI'll take 33 to 522 to culpepper to manassas and come in on 66... just to avoid the shitstorm that is 95... so I guess I should move down to ashland or glen allen for those "once a month trips..." |
Thank you -- it's exactly what I needed! LOL, I do live inside the Beltway (will get onto 395 at Seminary). I actually think I need to move to Woodbridge (or at least get a charming pied a terre there). |
