Vitamix vs. Juicer?

We're trying to eat more healthy, so we're in the market for something to make healthy smoothies using whole fruits and vegetables, chilled vegetable soups, etc. Our blender isn't doing the trick for things like kale, celery, etc. in smoothies, so we need something better.

The vitamix is so expensive. But is it better than a juicer? What can you use the vitamix for that you can't use a juicer for?

The Vitamix makes smoothies which keep the fiber in, juicers extract the juice so they don't have as much fiber.

I use my Vitamix to make smoothies, soups, dips, and pasta sauces, among other things. It's definitely an investment but I think it's been worth it, at least for me.

We have both. They are different. We've had the Vitamix for much longer, and I've used it for baby food, soups, soy milk, and of course smoothies. The juicer we've had for a few months a love it. We make a smoothie or juice every day, and prefer juice but it takes longer to clean so we make a smoothie when we're pressed for time. But you aren't going to use them for the same things, and a Vitamix is more versatile. If you want smoothies and soups a Vitamix is worth the investment in my opinion, though I can't speak to how good inexpensive alternatives are like the Ninja.

Vitamix. You can get refurbished model for around $300.

I saw Costco had new ones for cheap too -- I want to say $350.

Yes, you just need to add a little water (and maybe ice, to make it cold). We do this all the time.

I use my vitamix every day and I have had it for 3 or 4 years. It's paid for its self time and again. Not only do I make healthy smoothies, but it makes a good margarita too.

Got a refurbished Vitamix on Amazon for $300 a couple of months ago and love it! I have made soups and smoothies (DS has a breakfast smoothie every day) and have yet to try making hummus. Very powerful and easy to clean.
