theater show for 6.5 year old in NY

Anonymous
Going to NY in mid-June and looking for a fun theater show to take my DD to. She's really into musical theater and is taking a class at Imagination Stage. Can be on or off Broadway or something else altogether. We're going up for a birthday party in Brooklyn and I wanted to fill some time with a show too.

Recommendations? TIA.

I would like to take my kids to see Aladdin.

Lion King is always a staple. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory just opened.

Is Matilda still playing? My kids LOVED that.

My daughter loved Matilda at that age. Great show -

Matilda is fabulous but has closed on Broadway.
School of Rock is a lot of fun. Lion King is a classic.

Just saw yesterday that Willy Wonka is there. We'll check that out for June.

This kid is 6 yrs old! Some of the suggestions are not age appropriate. Has your child been to a live theater show before? Full length? I would strongly suggest you look for mini-shows or something that is geared specifically toward kids (like the Teddybear concerts at Kennedy Center). Something that is 1.5 hrs or less.

The hyenas in Lion King are very scary as is Mustafa.

Maybe your child is unusually mature, OP. I didn't have that luxury... so I keep it simple for my kids. Alladin, Seussical, Annie, Frozen, Mary Poppins.

But, even with these age-appropriate shows, many kids won't have the attention span or interest to sit for the whole thing. If you spend $300 for two tickets... are you going to regret it if your kid is asking you 100 times -- when is it over? I want to go home! ??

This looks like a kid-pleaser and it's only 1.25 hrs.

I'm taking my 6 and 8 year olds to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in June. It's recommended for ages 6 and up on their website.

Most 6 year olds will happily sit through a very well done Broadway musical with an intermission that is aimed at children. And I have a wriggly boy.

My 6 1/2 year old boy loved Cats.

Just took my 7 year old DS to see The Lion King in NYC. It was his first Broadway show, and I wanted to choose something really geared to kids. Everyone recommended The Lion King, and we both enjoyed it. I also considered Aladdin and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and I'm sure that those would have been great, too.
