carpal tunnel - can't take it anymore. Cortisone?

Anonymous
Ok, so did anyone get a cortisone shot or something while pregnant to help with the carpal tunnel? This is not repetitive motion induced, it's purely pregnancy related, surely from swelling. I've had it for months now, wear braces on both of my hands at night but still sometimes wake up with excruciating pain in at least one hand and arm. During the day, it mostly just affects my 3 or 4 fingers with numbness and tingling, though it can be a little more than that at times. I spoke with my doctor about a cortisone shot, and he seemed to indicate that it wasn't an option, but I could swear I read about other people doing it and it helping. Anyone?? Anyone? Buler?? Buler??

My carpal tunnel was so bad. I started wearing braces at night, then pretty much all day. I asked my OB about treatment, and she recommended I see a specialist, and I got cortisone shots then. I should have gotten them sooner! My problem did not completely subside, but it was much more comfortable for me. Good luck!

I got the shots in my third trimester and am sooooooooooooo glad I did. For me, the pain and numbness, which had become severe, went away within a day and stayed away.

Something to think about - holding a newborn constantly and nursing are not conducive to carpel tunnel going away. Once the area is inflamed, it might continue, which is even more difficult with the baby than while pregnant. My OB had no compunction about suggesting I get the shots and I felt safe doing it.

I had carpal tunnel very bad when I was pregnant. In my feet too! Just horrible. I had to go on disability during the last month I was pregnant. I didn't have cortison shots and it eventually went away after having the baby, not overnight though. Get the shots.

For those who did get the shots, who gave them to you? I don't have a 'regular' doctor anymore, so am just curious....

My OB recommended an orthopedist in the same medical building. It was a quick appointment, and I got the shots right away.

Had TERRIBLE c-t during and after first pregnancy. Went to orthopedic surgeon Dr. Richard Barth and he gave me one cortisone shot in each wrist. The pain went away almost immediately and never came back...not even with the second pregnancy. I highly recommend it!

I think any orthopedist can do it. My OB, in the VHC complex, sent me to Commonwealth Orthos, in the same complex. An assistant gave me the shots and did a wonderful job.
