We are a military family and about to place our child in Level IV, but anticipate moving for my husband's job in 2 years. Any feeeback from families who have left the program? What do you if your new district doesn't offer something similar? Is your child suddenly bored out of his mind? Especially concerned about the math since they instruct a grade level ahead.
I know several military families including two that have sent kids to a center when they knew they would be moving after one year there. They are military... they just adapt. One went to Carlyle PA after a year at the center. Another is going to Jordan. Most school systems have ways to separate math classes.

I was a military kid who moved every couple of years, and was always placed in whatever form of gifted program was available, if one was available.
Always take advantage of the programs when you can, and then, if there's nothing in your next school, help find your child supplementary enrichment activities and resources. Look at it this way. You wouldn't keep your child from a chance at two years of high-quality food just because she might have to get used to living on scraps the next year. The periods of better quality will strengthen her, even though living on scraps will never be easy or ideal. |
Our military friends moved to Europe and DD who was in AAP was placed 1 grade ahead in her new school.
We are a military family as well and plan to send our son to a center school. The since we don't know where the next duty station will be (it could even be to stay here), we can't really plan for "what ifs." We just try to make the best decisions we can with the information that is true right now. Our son is given this opportunity to advance in math and explore other subjects in a different way and I think it could be really great. We will deal with a possible move at the time it happens. Never a dull moment in the service.
