ATS, Campbell and other APS lotteries

Just curious--did anyone hear how competitive the lotteries were this year? I have a child entering K but we decided not to enter.

Haven't heard, but I imagine very competitive

ATS has a PTA board meeting next Tuesday- I can ask. (Or ask Holly when I see her later this week.)

This year ATS is easier because K will be 4 classes next year vs 3. That's 24 more slots.

We are in the high teens on the waitlist for Campbell (category 2, which I guess is S. Arlington neighborhood school?)

I'd heard there were something like 20 available slots for Campbell in K this year.

We heard from Campbell and Claremont and got into both. 99% sure we are going with Claremont. I was actually kind of shocked about Campbell.

We are in the 20s for Campbell.

Only 20 or so slots ever available at Campbell. If you don't like that, complaint to APS. The reason there are so few slots is because the majority of the slots are given to the VPI kids who have guaranteed admission. There is a huge VPI class there to ensure it remains a Title I school.

YOU NEED TO CHANGE THIS APS. VPI should not be concentrated like that.

Is it 2/3 VPI?

You're leaving out sibling preference. That takes out a large chunk of "available" spaces. Not all VPI students decide to enroll for K, so no 2/3 of the available spaces are not going just to VPI students. Campbell PTA supports VPI students being allowed to automatically enroll in K. And we don't mind being Title 1.

How big is the VPI class at Campbell? ATS also has guaranteed K admission for the VPI class(es) and siblings, so it helps keep the program more diverse.

Anyone know when we will hear about the results of the ATS lottery?

Are the lotteries done publically? If not, can we call for them to be done in a public setting as they reevaluate their transfer policies?

I attended the ATS lottery on Monday. There were 277 applications and 96 slots. If you stayed until the end they told you what position your child got. Unfortunately we in the 250s : -(.
