Hello,

I'm going to move from San Francisco Bay Area to Washington D.C. at the end of this month and would like to know if this part of McLean is good for a young family (I have a 4.5 year old girl and a 2 month old baby boy):

HAMPTON RIDGE DR
MCLEAN, VA 22101

Thanks.

Yes you're in downtown McLean in a nice neighborhood. You can walk to the grocery store and a playground and you're in a good school district.

yeah, it's way good. Ditto the previous poster. Great schools (Mclean HS, I think?), pretty easy commuting area to DC, Tysons, most of NOVA and even parts of Maryland. Walkable to downtown McLean is nice.

FWIW I live like 2-3 miles east of there and love it. (Same high school district.)

Can't get much better! Across the street are a couple of restaurants (a couple higher ends but there's a place that has burgers and such), Balducci's for pricey groceries/pre-made food and a ballet studio, hair salon, etc. Less than a mile away you've got Giant and Safeway for groceries, Total Wine, restaurants, book store, etc. The Mclean Community Center is a couple of miles away and has great classes for the little ones and several of the local churches have pre-k programs if you haven't already enrolled your 4.5 year old. I wish I could trade with you though and take your spot in S.F. - I LOVE that place!!!! The best place to meet moms are either at rec center classes or at the playground at the Redeemer Lutheran in the afternoons. Oh, and the Starbucks on Old Dominion also has lots of moms hanging out upstairs where their tots are contained!

The replies to this post were really helpful to me also. Just moved to Mclean with a 5 year old and 2 month old baby. Lisa, post here again if you'd like to meet up. I'm trying to connect with local moms of children the same age as my own. We have the Bay Area background in common also.

I'm not Lisa but I've got a 5 yo, 3yo and 6 week old if you'd like to meet up PP. I know how hard it can be meeting people in this area having lived in Mclean now for 4 years and this area for many many more. Email me offline if you want: isabelrdeg@yahoo.com
