Summer Vacation with 3 children to NE rec's

I have 3 children, 1 year, 3 years and 6 years old, and am looking for ideas for a week-long vacation in August. Could drive (ideally 5-6 hours max) or fly (ideally 2-3 hours max). We have done Montauk, NJ, Delaware & NC beaches. I like Montauk & the idea of heading north in the summer, but the hotel we like to stay at is no longer open. We would like to stay at a hotel/resort (not vacation rental) that is family friendly, with kids activities, but also clean & upscale so that us parents can enjoy ourselves too. Would like a beach nearby, but hopefully a cute town & other things to do besides the beach.

I like the idea of Cape Cod (was looking at Chatham Bars Inn) but the drive seems far with the 3 kids, and this board seems to favor driving there to flying. Any other ideas that I am missing? Thanks! javascript:void(0);

You can definitely do CBI by flying to Boston and renting a car. If you aren't doing a rental you don't need linens and beach chairs and all that stuff so flying is a good option. CBI is fun for kids - although obviously pretty pricey. Wequassett is the other one on the Cape to look at. Both are lovely and I would stay at either. CBI is closer to town, Wequassett is more self contained.
