We all get it McDonalds = Bad, Spinach = Good
But people still think theyre superior or some such if they eat a salad or have an avacado. I always see people post on social media pictures of their salad or brag that they feed their baby all organic food. Whats the big deal? |
Because it's all about who's the number one! Number two doesn't get the trophy here in DC. |
I've rarely seen people post pics of their salad on social media (usually it's pretty cakes and cupcakes, if anything!), but maybe they are trying to hold themselves accountable for eating healthy. I know people who diet who have done that. |
People post pictures of their gigantic subs, fried twinkies, deep dish pizzas too. It's not just the healthy eaters who do this. People love to talk about food.
I think the healthy eaters share their pics as a way to maybe inspire their friends to eat better "See! If I can do it, so can you - see how good this dinner looks!" and also to get a little pat and the back and maybe even impress people with their good will power and dedication. The pictures of the decadent food that people post is more of a "Look what I just ordered - Score!" If it's not about food it'll be about kids or cars or work outs or whatever... |
Same with donuts, mocha frappuccino's, etc. . . Why do fat people brag about the crap they eat? |
People brag about it because its hard as hell to do it. I don't brag about it, but I see why other people do. You don't have to TRY to eat bad, but you sure have to try to eat well.
Go ahead... take the time to make a salad that tastes and looks good. Might you want to share your creation with someone to maybe inspire them or just because you're happy about what you made? I bet you won't snap a pic of that fake, flappy, mushed, 1/2 inch thick $2 burger and fries. Ick. I wouldn't sweat it. If you don't like what you see, scroll past it. |
The only people I see posting healthy food pictures are the beachbody coaches/health coaches and they're just trying to sell you crap.
People also post unhealthy food pictures like the Starbucks unicorn drink. Whatever, to each is own. -Signed, a "clean eater" who rarely talks about it publicly |
No, everyone gets a trophy in DC! That's what's wrong with DC! Everyone thinks they're special enough to deserve a trophy. |
Honestly on my FB the overweight people post pics of salads and the skinny/fit people post pics of unhealthy treats. I think it is a kind of defensiveness/humblebragging ("look, I eat healthy!"/"I eat whatever I want!"
I am sort of in the middle and never post food pics unless it is a holiday/something special. |
Same. Or the healthy food pictures will be posted by a fat friend who is trying to lose weight, which I think is great. When I worked with a nutritionist years ago (grew up a fat kid & had horrible eating habits inherited from my family), the main thing she stressed was being accountable for what you ate. If you cheated, cheat and write it down. Go back later and figure out why you cheated or what made you want those two cupcakes. Taking a pic is even more "honest" when being accountable with yourself. You can lie when writing it down but you can't lie too much when you're snapping pix for the 'gram. |
I see everyone post food on social media, and not just healthy or junk food. I have friends who will actually post pictures of plain old spaghetti or chicken they made. You are probably just noticing the healthy food posts because they hit home for you, for some reason. |
Plenty of people are posting the Starbucks Unicorn drink and that bad boy is 410 calories. |
It's rude to boast about anything, but honestly Americans eat so much non-nutritious foods, many people are still so ignorant about portion size, etc, the junk lobby is so powerful and controls so much of the message, that I feel people who go against that tide and communicate that they are eating healthy are really fighting for us all. So they get a pass!

Either way (healthy or junk) posting what you eat or drink is weird. |
+1 I'm more likely to see a fancy dessert posted on Facebook than a salad. I'd actually rather see the salad--the fancy dessert just aggravates my cravings. |
