Truly the GOAT. She dominated in that tournament too. I thought this piece was particularly funny and insightful about both her strengths (most dedicated, fit and basically super-human drive) and how pregnancy can or cannot affect sports performance.

I hate the term GOAT. I know what it stands for, but why do we have to shorten it to the name of a barnyard animal?

She is amazing. No doubt.

But I actually am curious if she even knew she was pregnant at that point? Some people don't know at 8 weeks, for any number of reasons. Athletes notoriously have weird cycles.

It's funny you say that. The acronym was around long before any social media was around. People were talking about Sampras and Graf being GOATs back in the 90s and 80s respectively (Sampras after his 6th straight year of being year end #1, Graf after her Golden Slam in 88).

I can't imagine going through life like this. If you have to have a C-section, do you think it is unfair that some women delivered easily vaginally? If you have kidney stones and have to have them surgically removed, do you think it's unfair that some people could get them treated with medication or ultrasound? If you break a foot bone are you upset when you have to have a cast and use crutches where some people can get by on a walking boot?

It's a medical situation and some people have things easier and some will have it worse. I can't imagine wasting any energy on resenting people who had it easier.
