So you know how NYC has Boroughs which are another name for county in the city, will each of the 8 Wards become their own County, with each council member serving effectively as the equivalent to a County Executive?
I think it could work. |
|
Does it matter? It's not going to happen.
And no, I don't think so, we'd have to have a state legislature of sorts. So instead of council members we'd have state reps and state senators. Imagine the additional bureaucracy we could have! The money to dole out to cronies! Not mention actual Senators and Congresspeople. There would have to be Congressional districts just like in other states. A DC dream come true. |
| That would be pretty weird to see if they went that route. In regards to the PP, I think DC would only have an At-Large district and the Council Members would act as our state reps and senators. |
| DC could become two MD counties, Rock Creek and Anacostia, but I don't think each Ward would become a county, I think it would stay as is, with the Mayor being called "Governor" but otherwise, generally staying the same. |
I guess that's true, I was thinking we might get two hypothetical seats, but looking again at seat distribution, I see that's not the case. Which, by the way, why does RI merit two giving it the fewest constituents per house member when Montana which has a virtually similar population only gets one giving it the most constituents per member? |
MD doesn't want DC back. |
This. Retrocession is not something that Maryland is willing to do, actually. |
2 Maryland counties makes sense along with carving out a new small DC for the Capitol, Mall, White House, etc. That leaves what outside the new DC? Veep house? Move veep to another site. |
No thanks. We have enough crime with Baltimore, don't want DC. |
| No DC will never become a state. If anything Puerto Rico is far more deserving of that status. |
I think PR is definitely deserving but as a resident of D.C. I am very much in favor of statehood for D.C.. I pay taxes just like everyone else and should be represented just like everyone else. |
I would. Or give DC statehood. The idea of making the DC like a vatican city that would include the White House/Congress is fine by me too. People though should not have taxation without representation. |
| Imagine the D.C. Patronage opportunities. |
| My (unrealistic) dream is for PG, Montgomery, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax and DC to become a state. It will have a mix of rich and poor. Republicans will like it because it gives them back MD and VA. We will finally have a united front and way to pay for Metro rail and buses and have a cohesive regional plan. The poor being run out of DC to PG will still need to be addressed. We will have several state parks that can combine under on administration. It would solve quite a few of the regional issues that now have to go through DC, VA, MD and federal political juggernauts. |
How so? Puerto Ricans don't pay federal income taxes. DC residents pay amongst the highest in country. |
