Beginning in June, DC driver's licenses will no longer say "District of Columbia" across the top, but will instead say, "Washington, DC". This is because there have been many cases of DC licenses not be recognized by folks who don't know what the "District of Columbia" is. So, instead of the geographically-challenged thinking DC residents are from another country, they will just think we are from Washington State. |
This is returning to the status quo. Drivers licenses and license plates formerly said "Washington, DC." It's a more recognized place term, so why not? |
I actually like "Washington, DC" better. But it is a sad commentary on the level of education of Americans that this change needs to be made. |

Congratulation Betsy DeVos. You campaign to Make America Dumb Again is already succeeding.
How sad is it that TSA agents (the people supposed to keep guns and bombs off of planes, BTW) don't know what the District of Columbia is? |
Omg. This! |
A friend of mine couldn't rent a car in New Mexico because they only accepted US drivers licenses. The guy at the counter thought it was from Colombia. The irony is that New Mexico license plates say "New Mexico, USA" on them because enough Americans don't know that New Mexico is part of the US and not Mexico. You'd think they'd be sympathetic. |
this thread is bumming me the f--k out |
I'm no particular fan of DeVos, but how could she have had and effect on the education of adult TSA agents? |
To paraphrase Jay Leno's old joke about Marion Barry, TSA agents probably think it's a "district in Colombia." |
Huh?? What does Betsy DeVos have to do with grown-up TSA agents? |
