Does anyone NOT get easter baskets for their kids?

Anonymous
I've never done it, partly because MIL goes overboard with easter baskets for our kids already, and also partly because I rarely received easter baskets or celebrated easter as a child. But now I'm wondering - am I the only one? Am I a bad mom for not getting them anything? Is easter supposed to be a big gift-giving holiday? And what else do you do for your kids for easter?

It's not a big deal! Own it and move on.

My kids think easter baskets are the baskets you put your eggs in from the egg hunt our neighborhood puts on. So I just go with that. They are 3 and 5. Not sure how long that will last.

I do an egg hunt with plastic eggs filled with stickers. They each get an empty basket and fill it with the eggs they find. That is their "Easter basket." Don't do anything else.

We have one wicker basket that until recently sat by the door to receive our winter gloves.

Easter is tomorrow.

The kids will go into the garden armed with clues to look for Lindt chocolate bunnies. They will put what they find into the basket, and come inside to share the treats.

There has never been a new prepackaged "Easter basket" every year. However commercial and weird.

Confession: DH just asked what I got for them, and it just threw me for a loop! I guess it was a big deal when he was growing up, like every holiday.

My kids are 10 and 8 and that's the definition we still use.

Oh thank god, I feel so much better. Thank you all, temporary guilt panic attack averted - haha! You should see the easter baskets my MIL gets for our kids - they are giant and filled with 30+ carefully selected easter themed gifts and treats, so really, I don't know why I was worrying. She has it covered and then some.

What is an Easter basket? (Serious question.)

For some, it is a basket of candy and small gifts the Easter bunny brings on Easter morning.

HA! You made my day. I only really know what my MIL prepares. She usually gets a big straw easter basket for each of our kids, and fills it to the brim with easter toys and trinkets, wind up toys, usually some sort of nice egg-themed game/toy, gourmet easter chocolates - bunnies, eggs, chocolate covered pretzels, jelly beans, lollipops, easter themed jelly candies, some easter outfit, hats, easter activities, stocking-stuffer type toys, crayons, art supplies, etc. And then wraps it all in cellophane, ribbon.

Well, a Grandma is allowed to spoil her grandkids.
I REALLY don't think you should compete, OP. The kids don't need more crap, and parents are held to higher standards.

Are you Christian? We do it, but it's a few bits of candy and chocolate, and then we get dressed up and go to church and have a nice dinner with family.

Oh and there's always easter books, and a stuffed animal bunny of some sort.
