Did your RE change your IVF protocol second time around?

Anonymous
Hello -

I just completed my 1st IVF and unfortunately it did not result in pg. We are meeting with the RE on this week to discuss the outcomes and the next cycle. Wondering if anyone's RE changed their protocol on the 2nd IVF. Were the changes helpful?

Thanks!

I know that in many cases, the RE will change the protocol the second time around. In our case, our RE did not since he felt like I had a good response (number of eggs and egg-maturity wise) to the protocol we used the first time but that we were just "on the wrong side of the statistics" in the end.

Ours did not change the protocol either. Like the previous poster, we had a decent first cycle---good number of eggs and good amout of embryos. Transferred two "perfect" hatching blasts and for reasons unknown they simply didn't take. Next cycle (identical protocol and pretty much identical response), we transferred one "perfect" blast and I'm pregnant.

Best of luck in your next cycle!

My second cycle my protocol didn't change, because the 1st cycle was solid...we tried the same thing again. It was my 3rd cycle that we upped dosages abit and it worked. As long as you retrieve a good number if eggs (6-16) then your protocol will most likely stay the same. It's just finding that "one" that works. I've retrieved 37 eggs in 3 cycles....and I'm finally 5.3 weeks pregnant.

OP here - Thanks for your responses. They give me hope! We had a pretty good cycle numbers wise, but looks like the odds didn't work in our favor. Hope to have a successful cycle next time around.

Thanks!
