Yoga pants questions from a newbie

Anonymous
I have been won over by the look of running around doing errands in yoga pants (I don't actually do yoga)--I think yoga pants would look better than the sweat pants I am currently wearing. But I am utterly clueless--how fitted are they supposed to be? When I try them on they seem skintight--is that right? And what underwear does one wear with them? Since they are so fitted, underwear shows. Thanks.

you can get all different fits. Universally, though, they are fitted in the bum, and will begin to flare out from somewhere between your hips and your knees depending on the style you get. If you're going to wear them as out and about pants, then definitely avoid the VPL with a thong or something like the hanky panky thong.

I always buy mine at least a size larger than usual. Instead of buying a Medium, I buy large. (or occasionally extra large if they have a good drawstring and look like they run small.) It also depends on the finish of the fabric and the spandex content. Marika makes some nice ones. (the ones they sell at Gold's by Marika are actually good.) I like them to have a flared leg, and I'll generally wear them only for the most casual of errands on my way to or from the gym.

Also, you wouldn't want to wear underwear under them, just like you wouldn't wear underwear under a running or bike short.

If you're looking for something to wear for errands, you'd be better off with workout pants/trainers/warmups. Running and sporting goods stores usually carry them and you can wear those over underwear or running shorts or whatever. they're comfortable, and looser.

what about a Juicy track suit...or knock off?

Or fold-over waist skirts if you're not actually working out but looking for super casual? (like this: http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=46861&vid=1&pid=705670
