How often does your child go to talk therapy?

DD has high anxiety, defiance, and ADHD. I am going crazy with her but the cost of diagnosis, therapy is expensive! Every other week okay? I don't want her to dependent on a therapist either. Thanks.

We do it once a week. We stopped for a year but issues arose so we started again. We may stop for the summer but start again in the Fall.

DD goes every week (50 minute session). Thankfully is in-network with BCBS so it is only a $25 co-pay.

My DC has ADHD and anxiety and is being treated by a psychiatrist adn psychologist (takes medication).

DC sees the psychiatrist every 2-3 months as a medication check-in. Also sees a psychologist; for first year it was weekly and now it's more of a check in every 2 weeks.

Frequency and length of treatment depends on the child and how serious the issues are. But TBH I don't really understand what you mean by 'dependent on a therapist.'

Similar to pp, he sees his psychiatrist once every 2-3 months, but a lcsw weekly. With our insurance, the weekly therapy is $15 and we feel it is as necessary as the medication. He has ADHD, anxiety, and depression that leads to impulsive and at times aggressive behavior.

We recently started weekly but only because I found an in network therapist at $30 a pop.

Weekly for about a year and a half, now every two to three weeks.

Isn't CBT more efficient?

I'm not sure what modality your "talk therapist" is using, but the goal of a good CBT practioner is to teach the client the skills and make themselves, the therapist, unnecessary. Your therapist should tell you what the goals of therapy are and how you will know when your child is ready to leave therapy. If they can do that, great, and maybe every week is better. If they can't tell you that then look for a new therapist.
