It's not even a real doctorate. ex. Dr. Jill Biden, MCPS superintendent Dr. Jack R. Smith, and every school administrator I've ever met forces doctor.
Susan Rice has a real PhD but only goes by Mrs. Rice. Modest. |
| What's an Ed. D? |
|
I think if it's related to their job, they should put the Dr. I work with PhDs who do are referred to as Dr. Smith. It's related to the work they do.
NO ONE should be going by "Mrs." professionally. That's weird. |
A bogus credential anyone can buy and earn online or in night school. |
+1 I know people who put Larla Jones, MBA or MPA in their signature and business cards. That's a lot worse. An EdD is as real as any other PhD and anyone can "buy" a degree at an online university these days, it's not specific to education. |
|
It drives me nuts when people put MBA on their email signature. It says a lot about them.
|
| Huh? In the rare case that I am writing something in first person, I write Dr. So and So. Otherwise, I write, So and So PhD. I earned it and will add it to my signature line. |
There's nothing wrong with night school. |
| I agree that it's ridiculous, especially because I know two dumb EdD's. I'll call you Doctor if you graduated from med school. |
|
1. A lot of professional jealousy in prior posters' comments if you have to piss on someone else's hard work. A loser move.
2. Yes, dr is overused, esp by Ed D. Why? Because a lot of folks don't realize it is a doctoral degree as is a PhD, so I think they feel the need to advertise it. 3. What could any of you possibly care what others call themselves? If you want to talk irritating, how about the folks that name their kids Queen or Prince for heaven's sake? It's a dog's name! Or First Lady so-and-so, the pastor's wife. First Lady?! Give me an f'ing break. |
Normally, I don't care if people call me Dr. or not. But, me, with my PhD in physics, require you to call me Dr. Why? because if you will be an a-hole, I will to. Dr. X |
|
An Ed.D. is NOT a Ph.D.
It's like calling a massage therapist a doctor. |
|
My son's elementary school teacher has an EdD and insists that the students and parents call her "Doctor". Annoying for the parents (at least for me) and confusing for the kids.
|
| Isnt that the degree for which you don't need a thesis? |
|
Why does it say doctorate if the recipient isn't a doctor? Does it somehow diminish the value of a medical doctorate, or a PhD?
I just don't understand why anyone cares what someone wants to be called. If you work in education and have a doctorate of education, then flaunt that sucker. |
