| 30, still working in an Associates, hopefully a bachelor's too. HHI mid 60s. Never received financial aid of any kind before. Paid my way through the first few years of school. Wanting to go back and someone mentioned that I might be eligible for financial aid grant money. Not interested in loans. Any thoughts? |

It is possible! But it's difficult to say more without knowing the tuition bill and other factors, such as what your college typically awards.
You should absolutely fill the FAFSA out using your tax return and bank account information. See what the FAFSA says your "EFC" (Expected Family Contribution) is. If this number is less than your tuition, your college will almost certainly consider you for financial aid. They may recommend only loans (aid packages typically include loans) but they may also give you a small need-based grant or a merit based grant that is pegged for students with demonstrated financial need. If so, you can always accept the grant money and decline the loans, if you can manage to get by without that portion. If hhi is 60k, it is entirely reasonable to send your request to the financial aid office and see what happens. The world of financial aid can be complex, so if getting aid is important to you and you have multiple choices of where to pursue your BA, consider applying to multiple places to see if you get different responses. Back in my run through the system (20 years ago!), the Princeton Review guide to the FAFSA or Financial Aid (I forget the title) went in depth into how the system works. It was super helpful. I assume PR is still publishing a new version of the same guide. |
| FAFSA is unlikely to help you with an HHI of 60k and working on an Associates. It is more likely to help with the Bachelors. Neither option is likely to give you a grant though; you should expect loans. |

This might be helpful:
http://www.finaid.org/calculators/finaidestimate.phtml I plugged in 60,000 adjusted gross income, age 20, not dependent, 10,000 in taxes with no liquid assets and this particular calculator kicked out $18,000. I don't know what bearing full, part time status has on it, if any. |
| Do you think it would be better to pay the rest of my associates on my own. Only 12 credits. Then apply out for a transfer and try to get financial aid? |
| 60K with no dependents? You will probably just get loans. |
That's what I would do. |
