The movers are here for our long-distance move, and we suddenly realized we don't know how much to tip! We're a family of five, average amount of stuff. There are five guys here, and they have been here since 10. They said 6 hours on this end and then tomorrow they will arrive at our new house.
How much do we tip per guy? Thanks! |
| I don't think we tipped until the move in was complete, and then it turned out they damaged some stuff so even though I tipped him he turned around and counted most of it back into my hands as an insurance payment. Felt bad for his crew (but then I hadn't even seen at that point the hole they put in a wall...). |
| I usually tip $15-20 per guy, plus cool drinks/pizza. |

We moved recently. It was a local move and 4 men loaded and unloaded the major stuff from a 5 br house. We have yet to find any damage to our things or either house. Sorry to hear the PP that had damage issues. Anyhow, we bought them a good lunch (chicken, fresh veggies, rice & beans, sodas, etc) and tipped each man $40. We handed it to each of them directly so it didn't go toward anything else.
Is it a different crew working at either end of the move? |

$40 to $50 per person. For 4 BR house, local move---them moving everything (furniture and boxes) into truck, then unloading everything into new house, setting up the beds, putting back together any dressers w/ mirrors, china cabinet doors that had been disassembled, etc.
Also bought subway sandwiches and drinks. |
OP here. Thanks for the responses - very helpful. We got pizza, subs, and drinks for them, so we're covered there. I just need to know how much $$. Yes, same guys, but only 3 of the 6 going with the truck in the morning. Are these amounts for the whole move or for the loading only and we should do same tomorrow for unloading? Thanks. |
| Wow. I had no idea we were supposed to tip movers. I feel bad now. |
