I am curious if it is worth buting in the research for a 2nd round lottery try? We were wait listed for ALL of our 1st round prek3 schools.
(We for 4 in the one hundreds the rest in the 300s.) Anyhow, I figure it can't hurt to add 2nd round picks. But has the 2nd round ever turned into a match for anyone?? I assume they don't really impact our 1st wait list unless we accept a enrollment at a one of the schools (13th-24th) listed?? Thanks! |

Sure. Try Langley, Garrison, Langdon, Burroughs, Bunker Hill, Noyes if you are in or in close commute to Ward 5.
Try Sela if you have any small interest in Hebrew. Watch the DCPCSB amendment request next month for Harmony (in WArd 5) to expand for pk3-4 in the fall. That will add 30-60 new seats with no one on them! Look at EOTR DCPS. Also will be opportunities. |
| We got in 2 second round schools for K a few years ago. One the week before school started, one the week after. Look at schools that go through their entire wait list and be patient. Because you will be at the end. Also, perhaps, if you lottery next year be more realistic-- we have never "won" any good numbers in the lottery. |
What school did you get in? We have a rasing K and are waitlisted for all our choices |
| Is there actually a second round lottery? I thought they only did that one year. You can add yourself to waitlist s now. |
| Last year, we got into Garrison and Appletree CH for PK3 post lottery. |
| For PK3, I would put Langley but not expect to get in. They have a much longer waitlist this year, and last year they did not finish the waitlist until almost Christmas. |
Correct. And 'lottery" just post lottery apps. Your master number from round 1 remains your master number. |
We were pretty realistic we felt. We selected schools close to our home that could meet our child's need. We happen be near the Ward 4/5 line and apparently schools that have grown in popularity with neighboring Brookland booming over the past year or two. We didn't expect to get into all the schools we just hoped to be below 100 for one or two! |
You were actually selective -- which is fine and makes sense to know your limits. But you had a bad master number. |
Are you guessing at schools that will have no or short wait lists or is this information available someplace? |
I'm looking at historical data along with DCPCSB new openings. (ie, I'm not just listing random schools, but ones you really may be able to get in). Others in Ward 5 are Friendship Armstrong, Walker Jones, Lasalle Backus |
Thanks. I was especially asking because you'd listed Sela and was wondering if that's a low demand school. (I could see from historical data how many spots they offered last year and how far they went into their wait list but forgot where you can look to see how long a wait list each school had.) |
| We added Langley, KIPP Grow, and Meridian yesterday (PK3). In the teens or 20s on the WL at all of them, which seems like we'd have a decent shot...it can't hurt to add a bunch, OP. |
| They are not in the common lottery, but you should also apply at Bethune. |
