Wotton boundaries, is there a talk about any changes?

Anonymous
This, anybody knows anything if they are considering the boundary changes currently?
Anonymous
Have not heard of any. It would be a struggle for MCPS.

No boundary is "safe" at the moment. Current administration so far hasn't seemed shy about discussing boundary changes, including making changes for "rich" Bethesda schools

Really? That is big and without precedent right?

When you say Current administration do you mean the Washington or do you mean
County level?

My guess is they are going to use a Trumpian strategy of getting everyone to worry about boundary changes while they change the magnet programs.

School board makes these decisions. This isn't political (yet!). The overcrowding at all down county high schools, east and west, is unprecedented and they're in the process of addressing the overcrowding through a combination of school additions, reopening ( and completely rebuilding) Woodward HS and redrawing boundaries.

I am not aware of any of the down county crowding affecting Wootton (sp?).

I do remember hearing that in order to address overcrowding at Gaithersburg HS, some areas currently assigned to Gaithersburg would be reassigned to Wootton HS. Not sure what happened/ is happening with that.

I thought they were looking at rezoning some areas with Dufief ES and RC ES, and also Gaithersburg HS to Wootton. Nothing written in stone yet.

The 'rich' Potomac kids need to stay in Potomac at their own darned schools that they need to build...on their own damned school property that's IN Potomac and sitting vacant between ridiculously large mansions.

Yep I heard they were considering sending part of Rachel Carson to Dufief - which would then mean Wootton. I hadn't heard about Gaithersburg HS.

THe planning document is kept relatively up to date - http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/planning/

I don't think anyone in the Wootton cluster is in danger of being zoned out of it. Rather, other areas will more than likely get zoned into it since Wootton cluster is under capacity overall, and continue to be so in the future.

Here's the planning doc for Gaithersburg HS:

http://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/CIP18_Chap4_Gaithersburg.pdf

Looks like GHS may get rezoned with Sherwood and MacGruder.

Dufief planinng:

http://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/CIP18_Chap4_Wootton.pdf

"Planning Issue: Projections indicate that enrollment at Rachel
Carson Elementary School will exceed capacity by 92 seats or
more by the end of the six-year planning period. To address
the high enrollment at Rachel Carson Elementary School,
the Board of Education approved the expansion of DuFief
Elementary School to accommodate the overutilization of
Rachel Carson Elementary School"

Don't know if it means anything but I heard that the new head of capital planning (or whatever that department is called) came over from Howard County Public Schools.

And at HCPSS they were constantly rezoning schools school boundaries for a while. ie there were parts originally zoned for River Hill that got changed to Atholton.

Then there was something about updating the areas that fed into Hammond and Reservoir.

Some parents talked about going to school board meetings about these rezonings.

So maybe the new person is more willing to redraw boundaries. Assuming that they get the necessary support and approval to do so.

I know Rachel Carson is overcrowded but location-wise it seems strange to pull students from there down to the Wootton cluster, when there is over crowding in the RM cluster which is walkable to Wootton and other cluster elementary schools from some nearby neighborhoods.
