I was thinking of taking my 7 YO daughter on a mommy-and-me trip to Ireland. Am I nuts? Would she be bored out of her mind?
FYI I am a single parent and this will be the first vacation I have had in years..... But my daughter really is one of my favorite people! Can't think of too many folks I'd rather go with. If you took a 7 YO to Ireland, what kinds of sights and attractions did you visit to balance history/sightseeing for the adults with entertaining young kids? |
| IMO the best thing to do to have fun with a 7 y.o. is to do whatever they want. I have been to Ireland a few times and the weather is always questionable - lots of rain. I can't think of too much a 7 y.o would be interested in there but I was not looking for kids stuff during my travels. I did take my nieces of European trips and Paris was the best so far. |

I would take my 7 y.o. to Ireland in a heartbeat.
Kissing the blarney stone Are you or your daughter a music fan? U2, Clannad, Sinead O'Connor are all from Ireland and even a 7 y.o. could dig seeing some musical history sights You can find traditional Irish folk dancing everywhere as well Cliffs of Moher are amazing for any age -- mine would want to draw, paint, and photograph them Dublin has the Dublin Area Rapid Transit system which you can ride from end to end. We saw lots of families with young children on the DART riding end to end. On Grafton St. in Dublin there are typically hoards of girls who will wrap a clump of your hair with different color threads -- my 7 y.o. would love to get her hair done alongside mommy. There are some beautiful beaches in the Northwest near Gallway (sp?) if memory serves I wanted to go to Ireland for spring break, my husband vetoed my idea -- go and have a great time!! |
