I would like to know my kids GBRS who currently is in K. At what point in the year is it recorded?. I am not pursuing this to push him to AAP or anything but just want to know it for myself. He is ok academics wise but not sure how good his critical thinking is. Sometimes he is able to answer complicated questions from puzzle books etc.. but some times cannot answer very basic questions..

| Ask the teacher for a conference. There isn't a lot of info on a K GBRS. |
| GBRS are given only for those applying to AAP. First chance is 2nd grade. |
| You want to know for AAP reasons. Otherwise you'd simply ask the teacher what she thinks of his critical thinking skills or why she thinks he can't answer basic questions sometimes. |
Thank you Nostradamus. Want to tell me what numbers to pick for powerball as well?. If the teacher is half responsive, there is no reason for me to lurch on this board looking for answers. And yes by the way, the teacher will also "know" that I am asking this for AAP reasons. |
FCPS doesn't require teachers to give detailed GBRS responses in K. You will probably just see a number from 1 to 4 next to each category. If you really want info, you are going to have to talk with the teacher. |
| I believe at the end of K and at the end of first you receive a letter if your child was referred for Level II AAP. I don't know what GBRS cutoff is to be referred though. |
| I also wouldn't worry about what your child's GBRS is in K. I don't think it would help answer any of the Qs you have. |
| Our teachers don't do GBRS until 2nd grade, and then only for AAP referrals. |
Our daughter had one in first. No idea why but I saw it. |
Our teachers do the GBRS every year. In 2nd grade, the local screening committee does the GBRS With Commentary for all students in pool and for AAP referrals. The GBRS With Commentary is different from simply the GBRS. |
| Maybe it's different depending on the school? Bc I'm a 2nd grade teacher and I'm the first one who gives a GBRS for the students in the pool or referred for AAP at my school. Maybe the scores for younger grades you're talking about may be called something else? |

As I understand it all schools in FCPS have Level II identification in grades 1 and 2 (prior to the AAP level IV pool). I understand the kids are referred to Level II at the end of K and 1 by their teachers that year and that to identify those students it's a GBRS scale but perhaps without commentary. |
| I give it for every student in my fourth grade class. |
