School testing

We're having our child evaluated by the school. What has been your experience with school psycho ed testing? On the mark? Off? Any thoughts as I brace myself the results?

Our son was evaluated 2x by his school, and we did 2 private evaluations.

The school testing found the same general issues (ADHD, low processing speed, working memory deficits) but was simply not as deep. It was fine as far as it went, but when we began to see signs of anxiety we went to a private neuropsychologist because we wanted to make sure we understood if our child had ADHD, anxiety or both.

Thank you. Anyone else?

Did you let them do an IQ test? They notoriously test very low so steel yourself for that.

This is our first time ever for school testing. We agreed for all testing under psycho ed. That's why I posted this question.

Ok. If the IQ score is under 90 I would do a private test also.

My son's iq score from the school was right on target with private. Some test yield a low score at times (Stanford-Binet) so maybe it is the tests adminsitered

The only time i would be nervous is if I had a nonverbal or child with expressive language issues. That can skew results.

I'd also be nervous for a kid with ADHD or learning disabilities.

And what if the child takes a while to wake up and is not be able to do things that are asked right away?

Sorry meant warm up and not wake up

That's what the tests are for - to determine if there are LDs or ADHD or whatever.

Most psychologists know how to deal with this.

Obviously. But those things really impact an IQ score and the school psychs are not good at separating the issues out. Search this forum for hundreds of stories re this issue.
