What are you hoping to do in Belize?

Belize City has a two block tourist section, and is otherwise full of shanties.

We stayed a week at an island off the coast of Belize when the kids were 11 and 13. Our favorite trip ever! Blackbird Caye Resort, tiny island, awesome diving, snorkeling, fishing, and food.

Break your stay in to two parts: Ambergris Caye (Beach) and San Ignacio (Jungle). We did this trip last spring break. Highly recommend Lodge at Chaa Creek (Jungle) and The Phoenix (Beach).

We did this also with our two teens. Stayed at Mystic River Lodge in the jungle (very happy with this - and we are not resort people) and did several excursions (ruins, ATM cave, zip line, canoe trip) and then a VRBO at Ambergris. Scuba and snorkeling at the beach. About 10 days total.

Agreed. We stayed at Black Rock Lodge in the jungle (loved it), and Mata Rocks on Ambergris. It was fine, if nothing spectacular. The bartender poured some mean drinks.
